A Place Out Of The Ordinary

"We are proud to be one of the most prestigious academies of the magick arts you will ever find."

– Headmaster Houghton

Welcome

Join our academy and experience something truly out of the ordinary.

The British Hills Arcane Academy was created with the intent of fostering a sense of wonderment so often missing from daily life today. Under the guidance of friendly and knowledgeable teachers, witch and wizard apprentices will be able to study the magick arts while also having the chance to freely express themselves as individuals and forge friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

School Houses

The house system is a traditional feature of schools in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries. The school is divided into “houses” and each student is allocated to one house at the moment of enrolment. The houses are an integral part of student life, and shape a witch or wizard’s sense of identity and tradition.

The British Hills Arcane Academy has 4 houses named after the birthplace of each of the four founding professors: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Points are awarded to exceptional magick students, by their teachers for good spell-work, cooperation or excellent thinking. At the end of the school year the points for each house are added up and certificates are awarded to the winning house. See here for current point totals.

History

Nestled within the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, four esteemed professors came together. United by their vision for peace, they founded the prestigious British Hills Arcane Academy – a prestigious institution dedicated to nurturing virtuous wizards and wizards.

On the 8th of January, the Arcane Academy opened its doors to its first students.

Today, the British Hills Arcane Academy has a rich and varied school population. Students enrolled here are educated in the magick arts and continue to be taught the school values of ‘understanding’ and ‘friendship’. As each student proudly departs at the end of their schooling, they leave a well-rounded graduate, now belonging to a global community of other wizards and witches from magick schools all across the globe.

Grounds

The school is nestled in the middle of an enchanting forest in the mountains, surrounded by nature and fresh air. The sprawling grounds and charming buildings provide everything you could need to enjoy your time studying at the Arcane Academy. There are three main areas of our campus: the Manor House, the Village and the Barracks.

The Manor House is the largest, stateliest building on the Arcane Academy grounds. In the courtyard out front you will find a statue of William Shakespeare, who wrote such plays as A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

*Please note: many students have reported seeing fairies hanging around the statue at night looking for their last payment from him in exchange for writing all his plays, so hold on tight to your wallet if you go into the courtyard after dark.

The first floor of the Manor House features an extensive library where generations of young apprentices have studied the craft. Here you will find information on everything you need to complete your magick studies, from potions to wand work. It would take a lifetime to learn how many magickal secrets lie within the pages of the library’s collection of rare books.

On the ground floor of the Manor House is Victorian Alley, where students and professors alike are often seen stocking up on snacks and sweets to help fuel them throughout their studies.

Located in the east wing of the Manor House, the refectory always offers a first-class dining experience. Built in the same iconic style as many other well-known magick academies, the refectory boasts high vaulted ceilings and rows of chandeliers which create the perfect atmosphere.

*When eating in the refectory, please refrain from feeding scones to the trolls who live beneath the tables, no matter how much they beg.

The Village guest houses are uniquely designed to represent the different eras of magical history. After last year’s exorcism we are now proudly almost entirely ghost-free, but in past years spectres would frequently be seen in the upstairs lounges sitting and enjoying a cup of tea.

*In the unlikely event you do happen to see one, please kindly stay calm and call the front desk.

The Falstaff Pub is a cosy, British-style eatery where students can relax in the evenings and enjoy a frosty mug of sugar ale over a game of darts or toad-in-the-hole. If sugar ale isn’t to your taste, our staff of dedicated witches skilled in the art of concocting potions can craft any cocktail you desire.

Any lover of cake, sandwiches, and tea will find themselves right at home in the Ascot Tea Room. Offering a bright, cheerful interior and a tempting selection of loose leaf teas, the Ascot is the perfect place for new witches and wizards to hone their skills in divination and fortune-telling.

Located on the first floor above the Ascot Tea Room, the Craft House is fully stocked and ready to receive students wishing to learn the craft of charm and amulet making. Here you will study the unique properties of over a dozen powerful magick crystals, learn how they interact with each other, and build your own special amulet.

A formidable structure, the Barracks were built primarily for use as student dormitories.

Due to an unfortunate incident, the Barracks are considered unsafe and have been closed off to magic students until further notice. We are continuing to investigate.

However, exploration around the grounds and the nearby Fairy House are still permitted at this time, although it is closed for the winter.
